The Polish Family Association, in partnership with the South West London Integrated Care System under the Health Inequalities Fund, has developed a Guide to access and navigate NHS health services in Polish to bridge the gap.
Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, but for many people across the UK, inequalities in healthcare provision remain a significant challenge. Whether due to language barriers, socio-economic factors, or lack of information, some individuals and communities still struggle to access the services they need. To address this, we’ve created a comprehensive guide for Polish and EE to access local NHS services, designed to empower individuals and reduce disadvantage.
People from ethnic minorities with lower-income, often find it harder to navigate the healthcare system, this guide aims to easy access to local healthcare services by providing clear, accessible information tailored to the needs of Poles and Eastern Europeans who might otherwise be marginalised. We want to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, can access the care and support they deserve.
What Does the Guide Include?
- A Breakdown of NHS Services
The guide provides a detailed explanation of various NHS services available at the local level, from GP practices and dental services to mental health support and specialized care for chronic conditions. It clearly explains how to register with a GP, book appointments, and access emergency care. - Mental Health Resources
Mental health is a growing concern amongst Polish and EE community, and inequalities in accessing mental health services remain stark. The guide offers a clear path for individuals seeking mental health support, from initial assessments with GPs to local counselling services and crisis support. - Navigating Digital Health Services
As the NHS increasingly shifts toward digital platforms, such as the NHS App and online consultations, our guide includes step-by-step instructions for those who may struggle with technology. We recognize that not everyone has the same digital literacy, so we’ve kept this section as simple and user-friendly as possible.
This guide is just the first step in what we hope will be a wider effort to bridge the inequalities healthcare gap.
